Meet the Graduate
Meet Riana, a Sociology, graduating from Sacramento State University class of 2021! Riana is originally from Dinuba, California, a small city in Tulare County. When asked why she decided to attend Sac State, Riana said “I chose Sac State because of the location proximity. My favorite moment was being able to be on campus during the fall and seeing how beautiful it is. During my time at CSUS, I was apart of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.”
Q&A Time
What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?
“My favorite thing to do in the summer is hanging out with my family and sitting by any type of water.”
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
“Hardworking, optimistic, and outgoing.”
Why did you decide to take graduation photos?
“These pictures are really a present for my parents, I am their first child to get a bachelors degree so I wanted them to have pictures because of how special this is to them.”
What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your life?
“One goal I would like to accomplish in life is I would like to become a social worker.”
What’s something my readers would be surprised to learn about you?
“I am the first woman on my mom’s side of the family to get my bachelors degree and there are a ton of cousins, so this was a big accomplishment for me.”
The Shoot
As a Sac State grad photographer, I love the fact that the campus is filled with trees. As you may know, Sacramento reaches triple digits most of the year. Photographing graduates during July can be a bit challenging with the hot weather. Thats were the trees come in, proving much needed shade and an opportunity for both my grad and myself to cool down during our session.
A grad photo session at Sac State would not be complete without including some photos in front of the school sign. Despite starting our grad photoshoot later in the afternoon, it was still pretty hot this day. But Riana did great at working quickly and keeping cool. We snapped a few photos, and quickly moved on to a much cooler location to the bridge that is a short walk from the school sign. I love the mood these images portray, as they allow me an opportunity to eliminate background distractions and highlight the grad.
After this set, we walked over next to the parking garage, which provided another shaded background. I love all the green color this background provides. Riana was great at posing, which always makes us photographers happy 😀
