Meet the Graduate
Meet Kylie, a communications major, graduating from San Jose State University class of 2021! Kylie is originally from San Jose, CA. When asked why she decided to attend SJSU, Kylie replied “I chose SJSU because it was close to home. Family means everything to me, so it just made sense!” Her favorite moment during college was building friendships and connections with her professors.
What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?
“My favorite thing to do in the summer is to travel.”
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
“If I had to describe myself in three words it would be driven, passionate, and organized.”
Why did you decide to take graduation photos?
“My graduation photos mean that I’ve made it! Being a first generation college student, graduating was huge for my family and I. These pictures help to remember this accomplishment and all my hard work.”
What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your life?
“One goal I’d like to accomplish during my life is just to be happy. I cannot succeed without being happy and passionate about what I’m doing.”
What’s something my readers would be surprised to learn about you?
“Readers would be surprised to learn that I love soccer! I played soccer for 15 years and had a pretty successful career. I played varsity soccer at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose and won multiple league and section titles. Now, I return back to my high school and coach the junior varsity women’s team.”
The San Jose State University campus is one of my favorite campuses to capture grads in. Most of the backgrounds that students like to capture are within a short walk of each other. For Kylie’s session, we met in front of the popular student union, better known as the glass wall. I love working in this part of the campus, largely in part to controlled lighting, almost any hour of the day. Also, Kylie brought a very sparkly custom decorated grad cap with the SJSU logo made out of rhinestones. The hat was beautifully and photographed lovely.
After finishing this set, we walked right over to the palms on 7th street. This area can be tricky to capture if there is a lot of student foot traffic. But with the right equipment and timing, we can create very nice imagery here.
We finalized our shoot by walking over to the other side of campus and capturing some photos in front of the iconic tower hall. The day was mainly cloudy during our shoot, so harsh shadows were not a problem.
Below are some of our favorite San Jose State grad pictures with Kylie. Enjoy!
